Our Instructors

Steve Wheatley

Steve Wheatley is one of three founders of Phoenix Karate, his training starting when he was thirteen and was then practising Shotokan Karate with the KUGB.

Steve has trained in many Martial Arts along with CQB and CP work with the armed forces, reaching a high grade in many of them.  However, it is his training in Wado-Ryu that he is mainly known for, and he has taught at Seijitsu from the first day and puts his love and inspiration for this great art down to his good friend and instructor Sensei Barry Tatlow.

Steve has two children Ray and Georgi and both are black belts with Seijitsu, he also has two grand-children who with luck will also take up this great art. Steve's passion for this art is demanding on his students but can be justified by the standard that his students achieve.

Steve is from the old school of karate and still teaches in the old ways.  However, if there is a technique or something that will enhance his karate he is only too pleased to learn and teach these, as he is a strong believer that karate must, like its instructors, progress.

Gary, although a quiet man, has a good understanding of what is required from students, always getting the best from them.
