Aims & Expectations

Seijistu Karate's aims are to promote Wado-Ryu Karate to the highest possible standard. This is carried out by sticking to traditional and well-proven methods of teaching and training.  With that said the Club also looks at, and uses where appropriate, new methods of teaching and training, as both the Art and the Club are forward-thinking. Unlike a lot of so called "martial arts" that have as their base fighting, the traditional arts do not, and good fighting is a product of good technique and the understanding of technique "as there is no doubt that traditional Karate is one of the most effective forms of fighting known".  However, the journey through karate is a long one and many seek shorter routes.

We expect students to achieve this understanding by setting small goals, which are put to the test by grading, whereby students are able to see their improvements and can obtain a different coloured belt. Because of the complexity, should a student not come up to this expectation then the instruction is tailored to them on a one-to-one basis.  No student is left to try to work this out for themselves as this can create an "Us and Them" situation and can make students feel as if they may never achieve. The student will need a high discipline to gain the rank of Black Belt.
